Apple traditionally presented new versions of its operating systems at this year's developer conference. We saw the introduction of iOS and iPadOS 16, macOS 13 Ventura and watchOS 9. These systems are still available in beta versions for testers and developers, but there are also ordinary users who install beta versions on their devices with a view to early access. In our magazine, we have been covering news from the systems since the introduction itself. This just proves the fact that there are really many new possibilities in these mentioned systems. One of the new features is the Shared Photo Library on iCloud, which makes it possible to easily and automatically share photos and videos with your loved ones.

iOS 16: How to switch between shared and personal photo library

If you activate and set up Shared Photo Library on iCloud, a new shared library will be created for you to share with other selected users, i.e. with family or friends, for example. All members can contribute content to this library, but can also edit or delete it. In some cases, you might find it useful to be able to switch between a shared and personal photo library to keep track of which content is purely yours and which is shared. This is of course possible and the procedure is as follows:

  • First, on your iOS 16 iPhone, go to the native app Photos.
  • Once you have done so, go to the section in the bottom menu Library.
  • Here then in the upper left corner click on button with three dots icon.
  • This will bring up a menu where you just have to select which library you want to view.

So, using the above procedure, it is possible to switch the display of libraries on your iOS 16 iPhone within the Photos app. Specifically, there are three display options available, namely Both Libraries, Personal Library or Shared Library. In order to be able to change the display, it is of course necessary to have the Shared Photo Library on iCloud active and set up, otherwise the options will not appear. Users can then contribute to the shared library directly from the Camera, or via Photos, where content can be moved back to the shared library.
