It is virtually certain that Apple will release new versions of its operating systems tonight, led by iOS 16.5. He promised Apple users last week that he would release updates during this week, and since today is already Thursday and updates are usually not released on Fridays, it is more or less clear that Apple cannot avoid releasing them today. Although the new update will bring very little to iPhones, it is still good to know what you can look forward to.

Siri's new ability

Apple users often express their displeasure with Siri due to its limited usability compared to the competition. However, Apple seems determined to fight this problem as much as possible and this will be shown in the new version of iOS 16.5. In it, Siri will finally learn to record the iPhone's screen based on a voice command, while until now this option was only available by manually activating the icon in the Control Center. Now just say the command "Hey Siri, start screen recording" and the recording will start.

LGBTQ wallpaper

Last week, Apple unveiled this year's collection of LGBTQ+ Apple Watch bands to the world, along with a new Apple Watch watch face and iPhone wallpaper. And the new wallpaper will be part of iOS 16.5, which should arrive today. Apple specifically describes it in the beta versions as: "A Pride Celebration wallpaper for the lock screen that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and culture."

The Californian giant really tried to make the wallpaper high-quality, because it is a graphic that reacts to switching between Dark and Light mode, Always-on display, as well as to unlocking the phone and entering the application menu. These activities are accompanied by an effective color "shift".

A few annoying bug fixes

In addition to adding new features, Apple will, as usual, bring fixes for several annoying bugs in iOS 16.5 that can make it difficult to use certain features of iPhones at the same time. While Apple only mentions the three specific bugs listed below in the update notes, it's almost 100% certain from the past that they'll be fixing a lot more bugs, even though they don't give any details about them.

  • Fixes an issue where Spotlight stops responding
  • Addresses an issue where podcasts in CarPlay may not load content
  • Fixes an issue where Screen Time may reset or fail to sync across devices
