Basically, immediately after the debut of the iPhone X, the public began to speculate when other products from the Apple workshop would receive Face ID. There was a debate not only about the second generation iPhone SE, but also about the Mac and especially the iPad. It is with the last mentioned that the probability of deploying the facial recognition function is the greatest, as several news and codes in iOS 12 also indicate this.

Among the first signs is definitely a redesigned status bar along with new gestures to bring up the control center and return to the home screen, which are the same as on the iPhone X. Just the changed control method suggests that the iPad will get a cutout, a TrueDepth camera and get rid of the Home button.

Concept of what the new iPad could look like:

But clues are also found directly inside the system. The well-known developer Steven Troughton-Smith, who in the past has already revealed upcoming features in beta versions of iOS and macOS countless times, today on his Twitter shared proof that the found iPad will actually have Face ID. In the system code, the developer discovered an implementation of AvatarKit, a framework that is directly related to Animoji and requires a TrueDepth camera, ready for tablets. Until now, AvatarKit was only found in the iPhone X firmware.

Not only iOS 12, but also Bloomberg sources or the famous analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicate that the introduction of the new iPad with Face ID is at most a few months away. The premiere should take place in the fall, probably together with the new iPhones in the first half of September. The new Apple tablet should offer narrower frames, a faster processor, its own GPU directly from Apple, a TrueDepth camera with FaceID support and an approximately 11″ display.
