Three and a half months since iOS 12 was released to the public, the latest system for iPhones and iPads is installed on 75% of all devices. This follows from the statistics that Apple on the first day of this year shared on their App Store support pages. The new iOS 12 thus performs significantly better than its predecessor. At the same time, Apple is already testing iOS 13 these days.

Three quarters of all iPhones, iPads and iPod touch already run on iOS 12. The previous iOS 11 then retains a full 17% of users. The remaining 8% of the total belong to those who stayed on some of the older versions of iOS - this mainly includes devices that do not support both of the above-mentioned generations of the system.

If we focus on iPhones and iPads launched in the last four years, then the statistics for Apple are even more positive. In the case of those, 12% of users installed iOS 78. The previous iOS 11 again retains 17 percent, but older versions of the system in the chart only hold a 5% share.

When compared to iOS 11, according to official statistics, last year's generation of the system performs significantly better. Exactly a year ago at this time, iOS 11 only held a 65% share, which is a significant difference compared to iOS 75's 12%. However, a number of errors that plagued the system greatly contributed to the slower adoption of the previous year's version. On the other hand, iOS 10, which is still a year older, was installed on 5% of all iPhones, iPads and iPod touches as of January 2017, 76.

Apple is already testing iOS 13

The Californian company is currently testing the successor to its last system among selected users. A foreign server came with the information today MacRumors, which has recently seen an increase in visits from devices with iOS 13. For the first time ever, the new generation of the system appeared in the statistics in October last year. During the Christmas holidays, iPhones with iOS 13 appeared only sporadically in the traffic statistics. However, with the arrival of the new year, their number increased considerably.

It should be noted that this is not an unusual phenomenon. In previous years, Apple also tested its upcoming versions of the system several months before showing them to the public or developers at WWDC. After all, it should be the same this year, when we will see the premiere of iOS 13 in June, and the release to the general public will take place in September together with the new iPhones.

And what news will we expect? According to speculation so far, iOS 13 should bring changes mainly to iPads – a redesigned Files application, support for opening several panels in one application (a feature from macOS) or support for opening two identical applications side by side thanks to Split View (for example, Safari twice). News that Apple did not have time to implement in iOS 12 should also arrive. These include a redesigned home screen on iPads and iPhones and improved options for editing photos directly in the native application.
