The HomePod smart speaker will receive a significant improvement with the arrival of iOS 12. At the same time, it was not so long ago that there was only speculation about new functions that the tested version of the system could bring.

Currently, if you want to make a call through HomePod, you must first make or receive a call on your iPhone, then select HomePod as the audio output device. However, with the arrival of iOS 12, the mentioned steps will no longer be needed. It will now be possible to make calls directly through the HomePod.

The novelty in the fifth beta version of iOS 12 was discovered by developer Guilherme Rambo, who found a user interface setting in the beta that contained a fourth icon. This was intended for the iPhone application and on the same screen there are also certain requests that can be made on the HomePod, among them was for example 'make phone calls'.

However, HomePod owners will have to wait for the new software update, as it will not be released until autumn, just like macOS Mojave, watchOS 5 and tvOS 12.
