At the beginning of the week before last came out new iOS 12.4 for regular users. The update brought bug fixes, Apple Card support, and above all, a new method of transferring data from an old iPhone to a new one. However, recent tests show that the new version of the system also improves battery life on some iPhone models.

Older models, namely the iPhone 5s, 6, 6s, 7 and 8, were tested, with iOS 12.4 and its immediate predecessor iOS 12.3.1 being tested separately. In almost all cases – with the exception of the iPhone 6s – battery life improved after installing iOS 12.4. For some models, a difference of more than half an hour was recorded.

The measurements were carried out through the Geekbench application, which is capable of testing battery capabilities in addition to performance. It should be noted that the results differ from reality, as the phone is subjected to extreme stress during testing, and the measured endurance is thus far lower than during normal use of the phone. Under normal circumstances, the differences should be even more noticeable. However, Geekbench offers one of the most accurate tests to compare individual iOS versions with each other and determine the differences.

Ultimately, iPhone 12.4 and iPhone 6 owners will benefit the most from the iOS 7 update, as battery life has increased by 34 minutes for both models. The newer iPhone 8 improved by 19 minutes and the oldest iPhone 5s by 18 minutes. With the iPhone 6s, based on the tests, the endurance has not changed in any way, and the results are absolutely identical.
