In two weeks, we will see the second major update of last year's iOS 12. The new iOS 12.2 has been in the beta testing phase for a relatively long time, so we have a fairly clear idea of what Apple will do with this version. Let's take a closer look at the biggest changes.

The iOS 12.2 beta test began at the end of January, and since then several interesting snippets have been released that indicate what we can expect from Apple in the coming period. In addition to support for the as-yet-undisclosed AirPods with support for "Hey Siri" and the long-awaited Apple News service (which, unfortunately, does not concern us), there will also be some more fundamental changes under the surface.

One of the bigger changes is the new introduction of geo-restriction for the needs of using the ECG function on the Apple Watch Series 4. ECG measurement is one of the biggest innovations of the last generation of the Apple Watch, but due to the lack of certification around the world, this service is only officially available in the US. Until now, it could be done in such a way that anyone who bought an Apple Watch Series 4 in the US had access to ECG measurements, no matter where they took the watch. This will change with the arrival of iOS 12.2, and the feature will now be locked to anyone who is not physically located in the United States.

On the contrary, the new functions will appear in the settings, where a completely new sub-menu related to the warranty will be created. Users will thus be able to easily check how their iPhone or iPad with official warranty is doing, from when the warranty is active and on what date it ends. It should also be possible to purchase an extended AppleCare warranty through this submenu. Here, however, the question arises again, whether we will see this functionality in the Czech Republic as well. At least it will be limited.

Other changes will take place in the Wallet app. Most of us started using it in recent weeks, mainly thanks to the launch of Apple Pay. Apple has other plans in this regard, which are related to the alleged preparation of its own credit card, albeit a virtual one. Functionality should be implemented into the Apple Wallet ecosystem, which in practice will be a kind of hybrid between the Time at the Screen applications and the physical activity rings of the Apple Watch. Apple should enable users to set detailed card management settings, such as daily/weekly/monthly limits, monitoring of incoming and outgoing payments, balances, etc. However, here too, there is a question mark over the extent to which these functions will reach the Czech Republic.

The last evergreen of all new iOS versions over the past few months is the situation surrounding the AirPower wireless charger, which is perhaps finally on its way. During the iOS 12.2 beta test, several mentions of pad support appeared in the code, as well as several configuration files. This should indicate that Apple has not resented this product despite the obvious difficulties with development and production. We will know more in two weeks, when it will take place this year's first keynote.
