One of the main disadvantages of the iPhone XR is the absence of 3D Touch, which Apple partially replaced with an alternative called Haptic Touch. Thus, while the displays of other iPhones react to the force of pressing, in XR the system is only able to recognize a longer hold of the finger on a certain element and, in addition to the haptic response, provide the user with extended choices. However, there are quite a few of them, which is why Apple has already promised that it intends to enrich Haptic Touch with additional functions. And that's exactly what happened in the new iOS 12.1.1 beta.

Haptic Touch replaces 3D Touch only sporadically. The new function can basically only be used on the locked screen to activate the flashlight and camera, in the Control Center to display other functions and to easily move the cursor when typing on the native keyboard. For example, shortcuts on application icons, previews of links and images, or the ability to mark written text are missing.

However, in the future the situation should change and Haptic Touch could get most of the functions of 3D Touch. The first hint of a brighter tomorrow comes already in the second beta of iOS 12.1.1, with which the iPhone XR receives support for previewing notifications in the Notification Center. So now you only need to hold your finger on the notification and its entire content will be shown, including, for example, a preview photo of a YouTube video or other options, i.e. shortcuts.

It's somewhat absurd that the mentioned feature is coming to iPhones only now, since it has been supported on iPads for years. Unfortunately, in addition to all this, only the iPhone XR actually supports it, so on older models without 3D Touch, such as the iPhone SE or iPhone 6, it is still necessary to swipe from right to left after the notification and then select Display. It's a shame that Apple deliberately restricts older iPhones and only adds seemingly simple but useful features to the latest models.
