It is difficult to estimate how large a proportion of users will switch to iOS 12, but the vast majority of them are theoretically ready for the switch and have the current version of iOS 11 installed on their devices. As of September 3 of this year, according to Apple's updated statistics, the iOS operating system was installed 11 on 85% of the relevant devices. Apple statistics published on the developer support page in your App Store.

Apple last updated these statistics on May 31 of this year — at which time iOS 11 was installed on 81% of devices, according to records, which marked a four percent increase compared to the previous few months. At a time when Apple's attention and care was more focused on the upcoming iOS 12, the pace of this increase slowed down slightly. While the company fixed a few bugs and added support for USB Restricted Mode in its iOS 11.4.1 update released last month, it didn't encourage too many users to install it.

At the moment, 85% of iOS devices have iOS 11 installed, with 10% of users still using iOS 10 and the remaining 5% having one of the previous versions of iOS, i.e. 8 or 9, installed on their devices. The adoption of iOS 11 is about somewhat slower than its predecessor - according to some, numerous errors in the system may be mainly to blame. For example, there were problems with the HomeKit platform, numerous vulnerabilities or slowing down of older iPhone models in particular.

It was the problems in iOS 11 that led Apple to postpone the introduction of some planned features for iOS 12 that were supposed to improve the performance and stability of the system. One of the main goals was to boost the performance of older devices. iOS 12 should understandably surpass iOS 11 in terms of performance – applications should launch significantly faster, and the overall operation of the new operating system should give users a faster, more agile impression.

With iOS 12, it can be assumed that adoption will be even faster, thanks to numerous and careful improvements. The Golden Master (GM) version of the system should be officially released immediately after the end of the Apple Special Event, which is already taking place on September 12. The expected release date of the hot version of the system for all users is Wednesday, September 19.
