Wireless charging was one of the main attractions that Apple was preparing for the iPhone 8. Subsequently, the same function made its way to the iPhone X, and all this year's models abound with this option. The implementation of this technology took quite a long time for Apple, considering that the competition has had this technology for several years. The new iPhones received wireless charging working on the Qi standard, which is factory-set to 5W. Apple claimed in the fall that charging could speed up over time, and it looks like that speedup is on its way. It will come with the official release of iOS 11.2.

The information came from the Macrumors server, which received it from its source, which in this case is the accessory manufacturer RAVpower. Currently, the power of wireless charging is at the level of 5W, but with the arrival of iOS 11.2, it should increase by 50%, to the level of roughly 7,5W. Macrumors editors verified this hypothesis in practice by measuring the charging interval on an iPhone with the iOS 11.2 beta version installed, as well as on a phone with the current version of iOS 11.1.1, using the Belkin wireless charger that Apple offers on its official website. It supports 7,5W wireless charging.

Wireless charging with a power of 7,5W will be faster than charging via the 5W adapter included in each package. The question is whether the level of supported wireless charging performance will continue to grow. Within the Qi standard, specifically its version 1.2, the maximum possible wireless charging power is 15W. This value approximates the power that many users use by charging through an iPad charger. There are still no proper tests that thoroughly measure the difference between 5W and 7,5W wireless charging, but as soon as they appear on the web, we will inform you about them.
