In this regular column, every day we look at the most interesting news that revolves around the California company Apple. Here we focus exclusively on the main events and selected (interesting) speculations. So if you are interested in current events and want to be informed about the apple world, definitely spend a few minutes on the following paragraphs.

BMW Connected now supports Car Keys

On the occasion of the opening keynote for this year's developer conference WWDC 2020, we saw the introduction of new operating systems. As soon as we talked about probably the most anticipated piece of the evening, i.e. iOS, we could see the great news for the first time. Apple has decided to launch the so-called Car Keys, where you can add digital vehicle keys to the Wallet application. Thanks to this, you can use your iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock and start the vehicle without a physical key.

After the introduction of this feature, Apple announced that the feature will not only be heading to the upcoming iOS 14, but will also appear in the previous version of iOS 13 through an update. And who will be able to enjoy the Car Keys feature anyway? The first partner in this case is the German car manufacturer BMW. In addition, the latter today came with a new update to their BMW Connected application, which has received support for the aforementioned Car Keys gadget and allows the user to transfer the digital vehicle key to the Wallet application on the iPhone.

Let's recall how the whole function works. As we already outlined at the beginning, with the help of Car Keys you can unlock or lock the vehicle with your iPhone. If you subsequently get into it, you just need to put your Apple phone in the appropriate compartment and you can start. A huge advantage is that you can share access to the car with family or friends, and you can also set various restrictions. You can generate a digital key for cars of class 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, X5, X6, X7, X5M, X6M and Z4, provided that they were manufactured after July 1, 2020. With the function but, unfortunately, it does not understand some phones. To be able to use Car Keys at all, you need at least an iPhone XR, XS, or later. In the case of the Apple Watch, it is the Series 5.

As soon as Car Keys was introduced, the BMW giant said that iOS 13.6 is required for functionality. But here we come across a minor problem – this version has not yet been released, so it is not clear whether the function is already fully functional through BMW Connected or not.

Twitter edit button? On one condition…

The social network Twitter is undoubtedly one of the most popular ever. From the very beginning, however, it suffers from one shortcoming, which has become a thorn in the side of many users. We cannot edit our tweets on Twitter. The only way to, say, edit a post is to delete it and upload the edited one. But in this way, we can lose all likes and retweets, which certainly none of us wants. However, a very interesting post has recently appeared on the official Twitter account, which talks about the arrival of the mentioned button for editing the post. But there is a catch.

Because the tweet says that we can have an edit button, but only when we all wear masks. At first glance, this is a joke on the part of the social network. At the same time, Twitter is trying to respond to the current world situation. Since the beginning of this year, the world has been plagued by the global pandemic of the disease COVID-19, due to which the wearing of face masks has been mandated in a number of countries. As it seemed not long ago, the "corona" was on the decline, people threw off their masks and returned to normal life. But here we encounter another problem - in the case of such a pandemic, it is necessary for people to be constantly careful.

iOS 14 takes care of user privacy, but advertisers don't like that

As we already mentioned in the first news, at the beginning of last week, Apple showed us the upcoming iOS 14 operating system. Immediately after the end of the entire Keynote, the Californian giant released the first developer beta versions, thanks to which many users are already testing the system. Of course, there was no time left during the presentation to show all the new functions, and therefore we learn about some of them only afterwards from the mentioned first testers. The fact that Apple cares about the privacy of its users has been known for years. But in iOS 14, he decided to get even tougher. Newly, users must confirm whether applications can track them across other programs and pages, so that they can subsequently personalize advertising as best as possible.

16 European marketing associations, which are supported by companies such as Facebook and Alphabet (which includes, for example, Google), began to criticize this news. According to advertisers, this is an issue that is likely to result in user opt-outs. Specifically, these associations accuse Apple of not following the advertising industry's system for obtaining user consent under European data protection rules. The apps themselves will now have to apply twice for the same permission, which will increase the chance of rejection extremely. Often we don't even realize it and we allow the same thing to a number of other applications, which should fortunately become a thing of the past.

Fortunately, the Cupertino company is one step ahead in solving this problem. The applications in question can switch to a free tool that will allow them to collect anonymous data, where the data of the users themselves will remain safe and companies will continue to be able to measure and personalize advertising.
