We are on the Wednesday of the 36th week of 2020. Today, students and pupils visited school for the second time after the summer and coronavirus holidays, and according to the weather outside, autumn is slowly approaching. We have also prepared a classic IT summary for you today. Specifically, today we will look at the newly introduced processors from Intel, and in the next report we will inform you about the new phone from ZTE, which was the first in the world to come with a front camera under the display. So let's get straight to the point.

Intel introduced new processors

Today we saw the introduction of new 11th generation processors from Intel, labeled Tiger Lake. These new processors are designed primarily for laptops and feature an integrated Iris Xe graphics chip, support Thunderbolt 4, USB 4, PCIe 4th generation and Wi-Fi 6. The Tiger Lake designation goes to chips that are built using a 10nm manufacturing process called SuperFin . Intel describes these new processors as the best for all portable starters and laptops. The newly introduced Tiger Lake processors offer more performance and, of course, lower energy consumption compared to their predecessors. Specifically, Intel is boasting a 20% performance increase over Ice Lake for the new Tiger Lake processors, and the integrated Iris X graphics chip is said to be better than 90% of laptops with discrete graphics sold last year. Compared to them, it offers up to twice the performance and 5x better performance for artificial intelligence.

Intel has newly introduced exactly 9 different chips, from the Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 families, the most powerful of which will offer a clock frequency of up to 4.8 GHz, of course in Turbo Boost mode. Intel says these new chips will appear in more than 50 different laptops this fall. Specifically, the processors should appear in laptops from Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Samsung. The expected absence from the list is Apple, which is of course working on the transition to its own Apple Silicon ARM processors. So this just confirms the fact that Apple is simply not counting on Intel in the coming months and years. In addition, according to the available information, the new chips have a TDP of 28 W, so Apple will not reach for these processors because of this. In just a few months, we should expect the 13″ MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, which will offer Apple's own Silicon processors from the apple company.

ZTE introduced a phone with a camera under the display

The Chinese company ZTE, which is engaged in the construction of smart phones, has already come up with all sorts of innovations in the past. Some time ago, ZTE let it be known that it was preparing a new phone that would have a display on the entire front of the phone, without any cutout. The fact that ZTE is working on such a phone has been known for a long time - but anything could still change. Fortunately, there were no hiccups and ZTE introduced its new ZTE Axon 20 5G phone, which was the first smartphone in the world to come with a camera that is built under the display, thanks to which the phone's display could cover the entire front of the device, without a cutout. The front camera, which has a resolution of 32 Mpix, is hidden under a 6.9″ OLED display with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. According to ZTE, the display in the area of the camera is indistinguishable from the rest of the display - its brightness should therefore reach exactly the same values, together with the rendering of colors.

ZTE achieved this success thanks to the use of a special transparent foil, which is composed of organic and inorganic layers. Due to the location of the front camera under the display, ZTE also had to develop a special technology that adjusts the fog, reflections and color in the photos taken - when taking photos with the front camera, the photos may not have the quality that the user would expect. In addition to the camera, there is also a fingerprint sensor under the display of this phone, along with an audio system. In the case of the ZTE Axon 20 5G, there are a total of three components under the display that are classically visible on other phones. The Axon 20 5G also has a 64 Mpix main lens, an 8 Mpix ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2 Mpix macro lens. In China, the Axon 20 G will be available on September 10 for $320, but unfortunately, it is not certain when the phone will make its way to other countries.
