On March 13, Apple published a statement in the Newsroom section of its website, in which it mentions the activities that Apple is developing in connection with the currently ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. What is the Cupertino giant doing in this field?

Charity and prevention

Apple has pledged to support the fight against COVID-19, among other things, financially – at the time of publication of its report, it had already donated $15 million to efforts made as part of efforts to reduce the effects of the pandemic and slow its spread. In connection with the canceled WWDC, Apple also decided to donate one million dollars in financial compensation to the city of San Jose. In turn, the company decided to accommodate the holders of the Apple Card credit card by allowing them to skip the March installment without interest. If any of the employees decides to financially support the fight against the coronavirus, Apple will contribute a double amount.

In his report, Cook also mentioned the pandemic in China, where it is perhaps now more under control. He says the biggest lesson from the situation in China is to minimize the risk of virus transmission by reducing the density of people in public spaces, as well as maximizing social distancing. As part of an effort to slow the spread of the infection, the company decided to close all its retail branches outside of China from March 27. The online Apple Store is still up and running, as are Apple's online stores. As part of prevention, Apple employees are also recommended to work from home, and Apple continues to provide hourly employees with adequate income. As a precaution, Apple also moved its annual developer conference WWDC to the online space.

Information

Users in regions where Apple News is available may have noticed a special section in their apps dedicated to the coronavirus. Here they will find credible and verified information, coming exclusively from reliable sources. The company also warned its investors about the drop in sales in China and the possible consequences of suspending production, but at the same time, Tim Cook expresses a certain optimism and refers to the fact that the situation in China has been more or less brought under control over time. Apple also decided to ensure that only relevant information reaches users remove apps from your App Store, related to the coronavirus that does not come from official sources such as health and government organizations.

Aftermath

It is not yet certain what impact the pandemic will have on the production and subsequent introduction of new products from Apple. The company is doing everything to ensure that the coronavirus has as little negative impact as possible not only on its business, but also on the business of its partners. Spring Keynote will most likely not happen at all, WWDC will be held online. In order to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus infection, Apple also temporarily suspended filming all the shows for its streaming service  TV+.
