You may also have heard of different work and time management methods such as GTD or ZTD. Usually these systems have one thing in common - inbox. The place to buy all the things that need to be done. And the new Inbox service from Google wants to become just such a handy drawer. The unthinkable becomes revolutionary.

inbox created directly by the Gmail team, the service immediately gained considerable attention and credibility. After all, Gmail is one of the most used e-mail services in the world. At the same time, Inbox directly follows on from its little brother. We can think of Gmail as a kind of base with all the e-mails that we can still access as before, even though you activate the new Inbox.

Inbox is therefore an add-on that we may or may not use after activation. Thanks to this, every user can safely try this new service without unnecessarily risking their original mailbox. Whether you see classic Gmail or the new Inbox depends on the web address from which you access your e-mail (inbox.google.com / gmail.com).

But what makes Inbox so different that it had to be created as a separate service? First of all, it is carried in the spirit of absolute simplicity and playfulness, which can be observed both in the design, but also, of course, in the functions. Nevertheless, if the user is thrown into the service without any introduction, he probably won't immediately know how to use Inbox. However, the following lines should enlighten you.

The concept is based on the idea that we start with an empty folder into which all our e-mails go. We can do several things with them. Of course, we can delete them (after reading them), but we can also mark them as "dealt with". By this we mean that the matter is finished (from our side) and we don't have to worry about it anymore. Such a message will be available with all other e-mails marked as such in the "dealt with" folder.

Sometimes, however, it may happen that we cannot handle the e-mail (task) immediately. For example, we have a detailed email to which we need to add data that a colleague is supposed to send us on Monday. There is nothing easier than to "postpone" the email to Monday (we can even choose an hour). Until then, the message will disappear from our inbox and will not catch our attention unnecessarily for several days. On the other hand, if we just put the e-mail in another folder and rely on a colleague, we may forget about the matter and if the colleague doesn't send anything, we won't even be able to remind him.

In order to enjoy the empty space of the clipboard (i.e. everything is done) even more, such a state is represented by a sun in the middle of the screen, surrounded by several clouds. The rest of the surface is then filled with a pleasant shade of blue. In the lower right corner, we find a red circle, which expands after hovering the mouse and offers the possibility to write a new e-mail and the last user (after clicking, the addressee is filled in) to whom we wrote (which seems redundant to me).

In addition, there is an option to create a reminder, i.e. a kind of task. In addition to e-mails, Inbox can also be used as a to-do list. For reminders, you can set the time when they should appear and even the place where they should appear. So if we go to work near the stationery shop, the phone tells us to buy crayons for the children.

In addition to the already mentioned "done" folder, Inbox also has automatically created "advertisements", "travel" and "shopping" folders, where electronic messages from well-known websites are automatically sorted. In addition, of course, we can also create our own folders, which can be set so that e-mails from specific recipients or those messages that contain certain words are automatically sorted there.

An amazing feature is the ability to set which day of the week and at what time e-mails from the given folder should be displayed. If we are not able to ignore work e-mails over the weekend, we can simply create a "work" folder and set its contents to be shown in the Inbox on Monday at 7 a.m., for example.

Inbox also previews all attachments from the conversation for each e-mail. These tend to be what we often look back for in conversations, so it's very useful to have them at hand.

Inbox is available for iOS devices, on which its use is quite intuitive. For e-mails, just swipe left to snooze or right to mark as done. In addition to iOS, we can come across the service on Android, but also through Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari browsers. For a long time, access was only possible through Chrome, which, for example, was quite limiting for me as a Mac + Safari user. Inbox works in 34 languages, including Czech. In addition, the latest update also brought a version for the iPad.

Since the Inbox service is still available by invitation only, we decided to send an invitation to a few of our readers. Just write your request and email in the comments below.
