IKEA is a Swedish furniture company, focusing on the sale and production of cheap furniture and home accessories. This is the basic characteristic of society, but nowadays it is no longer completely valid. The company is moving with the times and has expanded its portfolio of brands to include electronics, including those that support Apple products.

HomeKit is Apple's platform that allows users to control smart devices using their iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch or Apple TV. And that smart device can be many things. Typical representatives are light bulbs, cameras, various sensors, but also speakers or smart blinds and much more. The task of HomeKit is to facilitate the control of various devices both near and far.

IKEA divides on your website smart home into several sections. These are smart lighting, Wi-Fi speakers, electric blinds, smart air purifiers and smart systems and controls. Everything is then divided into more and more sub-menus, where for lights you can choose between smart LED bulbs, LED panels, built-in lighting, etc.

Smart speakers

The problem with the entire and relatively rich offer is that IKEA does not immediately make it clear that the products in question are compatible with HomeKit. You don't see this information in the product name or description. E.g. in the case of SYMFONISK smart speakers, you have to click on Product details and then Further information. Here you will already find, for example, that the speaker is compatible with Airplay 2, which requires a device with iOS 11.4 or later, and that compatibility with the Spotify Connect service must also be present.

There's no mention of HomeKit anyway, instead you're directed to download the Sonos app, as the speakers are a collaboration with that company. The bookshelf speaker will cost you CZK 2, the lamp base CZK 990, and the lamp CZK 3. An interesting feature is certainly the picture frame with Wi-Fi speaker for CZK 690, for which you can also buy various panels. And then there is SYMFONISK/TRÅDFRI, i.e. a set with a gate for CZK 4. And it is already written in the details of the product and other information: "The TRÅDFRI gate and the IKEA Home smart app are compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant and Sonos."

Smart blinds

The two main models include FYRTUR and KADRILJ for 3 and 690 CZK, respectively, where they differ mainly in terms of fabric. The new blinds are TREDANSEN for CZK 3 and PRAKTLYSING for CZK 990. Here, the information is more accessible, because immediately after clicking on the product, you can see a note here: "Add the TRÅDFRI gate and the IKEA Home smart app to control the lighting with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit or Hey Google. They are sold separately.'

Smart air purifiers

The description of the cleaners section already mentions that they can be controlled manually or with the IKEA Home smart app if they are connected to the TRÅDFRI gate. The standard STARKVIND air purifier costs CZK 3, and the table with the air purifier costs CZK 490. After clicking both, there is a note identical to the one for smart blinds. It is therefore necessary to take into account that in order to make your IKEA smart home really smart, you need a TRÅDFRI gate, which in this case costs CZK 4 separately. This series also includes, for example, a wireless dimmer (CZK 490), a quick switch (CZK 899), a motion sensor (CZK 169) and various transformers. This list only takes into account certain products offered by the company. On their Site you can choose from wireless chargers, cables, etc.
