Thirty years since the introduction of the first Macintosh, people remember it differently. The boys at iFixit celebrated the Apple computer's particularly stylish round birthday when they took apart the original Macintosh 128k…

The first generation from 1984 featured an 8-megahertz Motorola 68000 processor, had 128 kilobytes of DRAM, 400 kilobytes of storage space on a 3,5-inch floppy disk, and a 9-inch, 512-by-342-pixel, black-and-white monitor. The whole thing, packed in a beige box, sold for $2, converted to today's prices of $945.

Inputs and outputs were handled by high-speed serial ports at the time. The original keyboard and trackball mouse, which was known for its low electronics content, were also disassembled.

Current Apple devices are not very friendly when it comes to disassembling and repairing them. However, the 1984 Macintosh earned a 7 out of 10 in iFixit's test, which is quite a high number. However, it is questionable whether this assessment refers to the time three decades ago, when certain parts were certainly easier to find, or to today's date.
