In this regular column, every day we look at the most interesting news that revolves around the California company Apple. Here we focus exclusively on the main events and selected (interesting) speculations. So if you are interested in current events and want to be informed about the apple world, definitely spend a few minutes on the following paragraphs.

The first jailbreak has arrived on iOS 14, but there is a catch

In June, on the occasion of the opening keynote for the WWDC 2020 developer conference, we saw presentations of upcoming operating systems. In this case, of course, the imaginary spotlight fell mainly on iOS 14, which newly offers widgets, the Application Library, better notifications for incoming calls, improved Messages and a number of other benefits. We had to wait almost three months for the system to be released. Anyway, last week we finally got it.

A minority of users are still fans of so-called jailbreaks. This is a software modification of the device that basically bypasses the phone's security and provides the user with a number of additional options - but at the cost of security. A very popular iPhone jailbreak tool is Checkra1n, which has recently updated its program to version 0.11.0, expanding support for the iOS operating system as well.

But there is one catch. Jailbreaking is only possible on devices that have an Apple A9(X) chip or older. Newer devices are said to have more protection and for now there is no way around it in such a short time. For the time being, the aforementioned jailbreak can be enjoyed by owners of the iPhone 6S, 6S Plus or SE, iPad (5th generation), iPad Air (2nd generation), iPad mini (4th generation), iPad Pro (1st generation) and Apple TV (4K and 4th generation).

Gmail as the default email client in iOS 14

We will stay with the iOS 14 operating system for a while. The system came with one more practical innovation, which many apple growers have been calling for for years. You can now set your default browser and e-mail client, so you don't have to bother using Safari or Mail.

Last night, Google decided to update its Gmail application, thanks to which Apple users can now set it as their default email client. But all that glitters is not gold. A rather impractical bug was found in the iOS 14 operating system, due to which changing the default applications (browser and email client) is partially inoperable. Although you can change the application to your liking and use this advantage. But as soon as you restart the device or, for example, it discharges and turns off, the settings will return to the native applications.

iFixit took apart the Apple Watch Series 6: They found a bigger battery and a Taptic Engine

The last Apple keynote took place exactly a week ago and was called Apple Event. On this occasion, the Californian giant showed us the iPad, the redesigned iPad Air, and the new Apple Watch Series 6 and the cheaper SE model. As is usual, new products are almost immediately in the sights of the experts from iFixit. This time they looked specifically at the Apple Watch Series 6 and took it apart.

Apple Watch Series 6 disassembled + images from their presentation:

Although the watch does not differ twice from the previous generation Series 5 at first glance, we would come across a few changes inside. Mostly, the changes concern the pulse oximeter, which is used to measure the oxygen saturation in the blood. The new Apple Watch practically opens like a book, and at first glance the absence of a component for Force Touch is noticeable, since the technology of the same name was removed this year. Removing the component makes opening the product much easier. iFixit continued to observe that there are significantly fewer cables inside the watch, offering a more efficient design and easier access in the event of a repair.

We would find another change in the battery field. In the case of the sixth generation, the Californian giant uses a 44Wh battery for the model with a 1,17mm case, which offers only 3,5% more capacity than in the case of the Series 5. Of course, iFixit also looked at the smaller model with a 40mm case, where the capacity is 1,024 Wh and this is an 8,5% increase compared to the mentioned previous generation. Another change has gone through the Taptic Engine, which is responsible for vibrations and the like. Although the Taptic Engine is slightly larger, its edges are now narrower, so it can be expected that this year's version of the Apple Watch is a negligible fraction thinner because of this.

Finally, we also received some kind of evaluation from iFixit. They were generally excited about the Apple Watch Series 6 and above all they like how the apple company managed to perfectly put all the sensors and other parts together.
