When I first heard about the game iDracula: Undead Awakening on the iPhone, I envisioned a game about a hero sneaking through the darkened corridors of a haunted castle while completing various tasks while trying to avoid the dreaded cruel Dracula. I was surprised to find out that it was not an adventure game, but about purebred shooter, where as the main hero we have to defend ourselves against hordes of werewolves, ghosts, vampires and Dracula himself.

So the principle of this iPhone game is very simple; gradually larger and larger hordes of enemies attack our hero, which we first repel with a simple and ineffective pistol, but gradually we get better and better weapons (however, this is compensated by stronger enemies). When we kill the attackers, they often drop items that we can collect, such as ammo or health bottles.

We can also gradually "upgrade" our hero using perks, thanks to which the hero can be faster, discover more items, and so on. The purpose of the game (besides survival, of course) is to collect the so-called omens that Dracula drops after our hero kills him. And when we collect a certain number of omens, we get a higher rank.

However, the game has two different modes, in which we can play, and in addition to the Survival mode that I described above, it also offers Rush mode, in which the hero appears already with a good weapon and the sole purpose is to defend himself against huge hordes of enemies for as long as possible (see image on the left).

How is the game with the controls? I have to say that at first it was quite confusing for me, but I got used to it very quickly. The game is controlled with both thumbs using virtual directional "circles", where the left circle controls the hero's movement, and the right one controls the shooting direction. In the middle between the circles we have a selection of all the weapons we have collected, and we can choose the one we want to use (but we must have ammunition for it).

Graphically, the creators of the game were very successful surprising what iPhone hardware can do. The characters of the hero and his enemies are very nicely drawn and the game does not freeze at all, it is smooth even in the most demanding scenes when we have an iPhone screen full of monsters. The music - a mixture of techno and rock - also did well, as did the sounds of guns firing and beasts growling.

So far, by all accounts, iDracula looks almost like a perfect iPhone game. But what are the negatives? From my point of view, it is above all the absence of any story and with the passage of time, it may also become a problem to have only one level on which we can play. Multiplayer would also be nice and could certainly be put to good use in the game. The creators of the game - developers from the Chillingo team - have already promised to create two more levels, more enemies, weapons and a new game mode.

iDracula is in my opinion very good game on iPhone, especially for fans of shooters, but also for others who want to have fun - iDracula does that perfectly, and for the offered price of $0.99, it's definitely worth it. Of course it is you need to hurry, because the above-mentioned game update is coming and the price of the game will increase to $2.99!
