As an aviation fan, for a long time I was looking for an application that would provide me with information about flights from Prague Airport. Unfortunately, I have only found applications that collect data from global databases and thus display only part of the flights, and with only a small amount of data – basically just time, flight number and destination.

However, last week I came across a new Czech application iAviation CS, providing information on operations at Czech and Slovak international airports. The application claims in its description and on its website that it uses data directly from individual airports. This intrigued me and I decided to test it.

The home page offers a selection of airports, Brno, Karlovy Vary, Ostrava, Prague, Bratislava and Košice are available. Logically, Prague contains the most information, which is also preselected by default. The application is localized in Czech (according to the website also Slovak, English, German, Spanish and Polish). In the lower taskbar, you can switch to Departures, Arrivals a Airport info.

The page of departures and arrivals is very nicely graphically processed, at the beginning of the statement there is always a picture with the motif of the given airport. Each flight contains the date, time, flight number, destination, airline logo, terminal designation, codeshare lines and current flight status (what you know from information systems at airports – BOARDING, LAST CALL, etc.). You can also click on a flight to get even more detailed information. There is also a button Filter, with which you select the display of flights to/from certain destinations or only flights of selected airlines.

On the detailed page of the flight, you can also see the name of the airline, the relevant check-in and boarding counters, the type of aircraft and the weather at the destination. The arrival screen also contains a picture of the suitcase, according to the current status of baggage unloading. Click on this image to get this information in text form. However, this only works at the Prague airport, other airports apparently do not support this information. I also found the SMS button useful, which allows you to send flight information to someone else.

A very interesting effect occurs when you rotate the iPhone on this detailed page. This is because the screen will change to a graphic form corresponding to the given airline, which the company uses on the screens during check-in at the airport. This fancy trick makes the app stand out. Last tab Airport info refers to the website of the given airport, usually to an overview of news.

I personally like the application very much, even though I am not a frequent traveler, at most once a year on vacation. Still, I will definitely use the app. Detailed and especially complete information is a big plus against similar applications. I can imagine that it will be used not only by people who often fly, but also by others - for example, taxi drivers, travel agents, spotters or maybe just airplane fans like me...

A few days ago, the version for iPad was also released, so maybe next time...
