Huawei first introduced its wireless AirPods clone last March. After about a year and a half, the third generation is coming to the market, which comes with a function that users of Apple headphones have been impatiently (and so far unsuccessfully) waiting for for quite a long time. This is active noise cancellation, or ANC.

The headphones from Huawei are called FreeBuds and, unlike AirPods, they are also available in a black color variant. The ANC technology in the new, third generation of FreeBuds is able (according to the manufacturer's specifications) to dampen up to 15 decibels of ambient sound. That's very good performance for such a tiny headphone.

This value is very low compared to classic ANC headphones. However, structurally, it is probably not possible to achieve a much better result. In the case of AirPods and their third generation, there are rumors that they will also get ANC. The performance efficiency of this solution should be plus or minus similar.

To add to the comparison with Apple, Huawei claims that its headphones also charge faster and provide higher quality sound from the integrated microphones, thanks to improved noise reduction. Otherwise, the FreeBuds 3 will offer four hours of battery life, with the charging box providing energy for up to 20 more hours of listening. The charging speed should be 100% faster than AirPods, or 50% in the case of wireless charging. Thanks to the design, the integrated microphones should be able to provide a clear speech up to a speed of 20 kilometers per hour (considering the surrounding noise). It shouldn't be a problem to talk on the phone, for example, while cycling.

Of course, Huawei headphones do not offer the Apple H1 chip, which ensures seamless pairing with Apple products and longer battery life. Huawei, on the other hand, comes with its own version of such a microchip, which is called A1 and should do practically the same thing (Bluetooth 5.1 and LP Bluetooth support). However, it remains to be seen how it will look in reality.
