Lawsuits have been the order of the day in the tech world in recent months. Of course, we are most interested in Apple, which is fighting hard especially with Samsung. However, a competitor is also hidden in the Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, which could defend itself against Apple by buying its own operating system – apparently it intends to buy webOS from HP.

The legal tussles between Apple and Samsung are well known, in Cupertino they have already reached the point where the South Korean giant cannot sell some of its products in several states. Most of the time, a number of patents are being fought over, although the lawsuits also included the external appearance of the device.

But back to HTC. At the moment, it only creates hardware, its smartphones are equipped with either the Android operating system or Windows Phone 7. However, this could change, because in Taiwan they are thinking about having their own operating system.

HTC Chairman Cher Wang pro focus taiwan admitted that the company is considering the purchase of its own OS, however, she is in no rush for a possible agreement. Wang accurately named that HTC is mainly eyeing webOS, since its development recently he dropped Hewlett-Packard, which wants to focus on other industries.

"We have thought about it and discussed the possibility, but we will not act rashly," Wang said of webOS, which HP bought from Palm in 2010 for $1,2 billion. The HTC president also mentioned that the company's strength is in its own HTC Sense user interface, which can make their phones different from the competition.

Wang also commented on Google's recent acquisition of Motorola Mobility, saying they did well in Mountain View by spending $12,5 billion on the patent portfolio. And no wonder, because HTC also profited from this deal. Google transferred several patents to a Taiwanese partner on September 1, and the latter immediately filed a complaint against Apple. The iPhone is said to infringe nine of his new patents.

If HTC does end up buying webOS, it will be interesting to see how the market plays out. Whether HTC smartphones will continue to carry Android and Windows Phone 7, or whether they will only have webOS. Well, we have to be surprised.
