When Apple introduced Apple Music with Spatial Audio, Dolby Atmos and Lossless last week, it raised a lot of questions. At first, it was not entirely clear what devices would actually be supported, what awaits us and what we will actually enjoy music on in first-class quality. This mainly concerned Apple Music Lossless or lossless audio playback. First of all, it was said that neither AirPods nor HomePod (mini) would receive support.

Unfortunately, classic AirPods will not receive support due to Bluetooth technology, which simply cannot cope with the transmission of lossless audio. But as for the HomePods (mini), luckily they are looking forward to better times. To avoid all kinds of questions, Apple released a new one dokument clarifying a number of things. According to him, both HomePod and HomePod mini will receive a software update, thanks to which they will handle Lossless playback natively in the future. For now, they use the AAC codec. So now we have confirmation that both apple speakers will receive support. But there is one catch. How will it work in the finale? Will we need two HomePods in stereo mode for this, or will one be enough? For example, the HomePod mini does not support Dolby Atmos, while the older HomePod, in the aforementioned stereo mode, does for videos.

Another question is how Apple is going to get Lossless music to HomePods wirelessly. In this direction, there is probably only one solution, which, among other things, was confirmed by the well-known leaker Jon Prosser. Allegedly, AirPlay 2 technology will deal with this, or Apple will create a new software solution for its products.
