Adam Kos Without the typical Keynote, Apple presented us with a whole range of new products, including the 2nd generation HomePod. He may not be excited yet, that may come more when we hear him in action. Although it looks (almost) the same from the outside, everything is different inside.
If you look at the press materials of the 2nd generation HomePod, you might not see any difference from the 1st generation. But the truth is that the novelty is completely redesigned. If the original model measured 172 mm in height, the 2nd generation is smaller because it is 168 mm high. But the diameter really remained preserved, so it was and is 142 mm. The novelty is also lighter. The original HomePod weighed 2,5 kg, its second generation weighs 2,3 kg. The upper touch surface has also been redesigned, which is now more similar to that of the HomePod mini.

Apple says in the news that the high-performance woofer gives HomePod deep and rich bass. Its powerful motor drives a remarkable 20mm diaphragm, while its microphone with bass equalizer dynamically tunes low frequencies in real time. It has an array of five beamforming tweeters around its base that optimize high frequencies to produce detailed, articulate sound with stunning clarity.

So it can be seen here that even though Apple has reduced the number of tweeters, it is catching up with other hardware and, of course, software as well. The arrangement of the components is different, as evidenced by the "x-ray" images above. There is no reason not to trust Apple in the fact that its novelty will really be on a different level. This is because it brings technological progress with regard to sensors, where, apart from the one for sound recognition, it also includes the one for temperature and humidity, which you can use especially when connected to a smart home. HomePod 2nd generation will enter the market on February 3rd, but it will not be officially available in the Czech Republic.
