Although Apple has been offering the Home platform for many years, while also constantly improving it, it is worse when it comes to products. It only has HomePod mini (or Apple TV) in its portfolio, which definitely does not reach the potential of this solution. But that could change already next year.

Apple's HomeKit relies primarily on solutions from third-party accessory manufacturers, the same will be the case with the Matter standard, on which Apple is working with other technological leaders. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg however, the company itself is to become more involved, and it could start with a dock for the iPad.

In contrast to the past, it also looks like Apple could be preparing for this connection for a long time. We are, of course, referring to the Smart Connector, which iPads already include, and which would ideally be used for communication. The devices would not have to connect only via Bluetooth or the same Wi-Fi network, but also through this unique connector. Moreover, in retrospect.

It is not an original solution

However, Apple missed its chance for an original approach. Already last year, there was speculation about a certain combination of HomePod with Apple TV and even with iPad, for which it would offer a certain holder. Whether Google was inspired by these concepts or not, when presenting the Google Pixel 7, it mentioned that it was already preparing a docking station with the possibility of charging its tablet.

Although Google already showed the tablet itself as part of its spring I/O conference, it also mentioned that it will not arrive until 2023. Moreover, the docking station will not be just "any" station. Since the company owns the Nest brand, this dock will also be its smart speaker and will therefore be a multifunctional device that will be able to live a life of its own.

The competition is simply ahead

After all, Google is much further ahead than Apple in this regard. Although we are talking here about a smart speaker/tablet device combination, it already offers solutions in its portfolio, such as the Google Nest Hub, which you can also buy from us for approx. 1 CZK or the Google Nest Hub Max for approx. 800 CZK. But these are not separate devices that can be separated from each other, even if they contain large touch screens, thus also integrated cameras for video calls.

Because Amazon is also trying to be part of the smart home, it offers its Echo Show hubs starting at 1 CZK. Their use is also focused around the control of a smart home, where they include a larger touch screen and certain models also have an integrated camera. In addition, the Echo Show 300 is a very capable machine with even a 10" HD display and a 10,1 MPx camera with the possibility of centering the shot.

Given the popularity of Apple products, it can be predicted that a similar product would have considerable potential. And that even if it was, for example, just a modified HomePod, to which you would connect existing iPads with the Smart Connector. But for us it can have one catch. Whatever Apple introduces in this area, probably not officially for the Czech Republic, because you won't even get a HomePod here in the Apple Online Store. Everything is to blame for the concept that revolves around Siri, who still can't speak Czech.

For example, you can buy a HomePod here
