Google yesterday he announced a major innovation that will be welcomed by iPhone owners and smartwatch fans alike – A, Google's operating system for smart watches and other wearables, is now compatible with the Apple company's phones.

Support is promised for iPhones 5 and newer, which must also run at least iOS 8.2. The new Android Wear app is out now available in the App Store.

Thanks to Android Wear, users on the iPhone will encounter functions that have been known to Androidists for a long time: for example, new third-party watch faces, fitness activity tracking, notifications, Google Now or voice search. Android Wear also comes pre-installed with some Google apps like Weather or Translator, but third-party iOS apps don't appear due to Apple restrictions.

Although Google has tried to partially circumvent these limitations, it still does not offer Android Wear on the iPhone the same as on Android.

Android Wear on the iPhone can be paired with the LG Watch Urbane, Huawei Watch (coming soon) or Asus ZenWatch 2 and all new arrivals. The iPhone can also be connected to the attractive Moto 360 from Motorola, you just need to return the watch to factory settings and install the latest version of the operating system.

The pairing process with iPhones is then very simple. You install the Android Wear app on your phone, pair your phone with the watch, and go through a few basic settings screens. After this we're pretty much done, although there's plenty of other setup you can dive into.

Google has currently added the most basic things that people buy smartwatches to the system for apple phone users, and these things work 100%. As time goes on, more and more functions will hopefully only be added.

Google has an advantage mainly in the watch itself. Some Android Wear watches are, according to many, better designed than the Apple Watch, but above all, there is an abundance of them at different price points with different functions and hardware options, which is a choice that the Watch does not offer. With the arrival of Android Wear on iOS, Google is betting that even iPhone owners can be interested in watches other than those with the Apple logo.
