Among the computer models currently produced by Apple is the Mac mini. This model was last updated in 2020, and recently there has been a lot of speculation that we could see the arrival of a new generation of Mac mini this year. What were the beginnings of this computer?

In the portfolio of the company Apple, during the existence of the company, a huge number of different computers of different design, functions, price and size appeared. In 2005, a model was added to this portfolio, which stood out mainly for its size. Introduced in January 2005, the first-generation Mac mini was Apple's cheapest and most affordable computer at the time of its release. Its dimensions were really tiny compared to all-in-one Macs, and the computer weighed just over one kilogram. The Mac mini of the first generation was equipped with a PowerPC 7447a processor and equipped with USB ports, a FireWire port, an Ethernet port, a DVD/CD-RV drive or a 3,5 mm jack. You can't directly talk about the rocket rise of the Mac mini, but this model has definitely found its fan base over time. The Mac mini gained popularity especially among users who wanted to try a computer from Apple, but did not necessarily need an all-in-one model, or did not want to invest too much money in a new Apple machine.

Over time, the Mac mini has received a number of updates. Of course, it could not avoid, for example, the transition to processors from Intel's workshop, after a few years the optical drive was removed for a change, the transition to a unibody design (third generation Mac mini) or perhaps a change in dimensions and color - in October 2018, for example, it was introduced Mac mini in Space Gray color variant. A very significant change in the Mac mini product line last occurred in 2020, when Apple introduced the fifth generation of this small model, which was equipped with an Apple silicon processor. The Mac mini with the Apple M1 chip offered significantly higher performance, support for up to two external displays, and was available in a variant with a 256GB SSD and a 512GB SSD.

This year marks two years since the introduction of the last generation Mac mini, so it's no wonder that speculation about a possible update has been heating up lately. According to these speculations, the next-generation Mac mini should offer a practically unchanged design, but it could be available in more colors. As for the ports, there is speculation about Thunderbolt, USB, HDMI and Ethernet connectivity, for charging, similar to the 24” iMac, a magnetic charging cable should be used. In connection with the future Mac mini, there was initially speculation about the M1 Pro or M1 Max chip, but now analysts are more inclined to the fact that it could be available in two variants - one should be equipped with a standard M2 chip, the other with an M2 chip for a change For. The new generation of Mac mini should be presented during this year - let's be surprised if it will be presented as part of WWDC in June.
