There are several different models of revolutionary music players on the market today iPod from Apple. But do you remember what the first models of each species looked like and when exactly they were released? If not, this article will help you with that.
The very first iPod (iPod 1st generation), saw the light of day on October 23, 2001. The most expensive version of this iPod at $499 had a capacity of 10 GB and a battery life of 10 hours when listening to music. It was a revolution at the time. This model only communicated with Mac computers. Therefore, a year later, a new version was released.
The 2nd generation iPod also communicated with Windows computers without problems. This iPod was the first to be released in limited editions (No Doubt, Madonna, Tony Hawk, Beck). This model of iPod was constantly improved in the following years and its name changed as well. First on iPod video and subsequently on iPod classic, as we know it today.
The second type of iPod released was the iPod mini in 2004 with a price of $249, a capacity of 4 GB and a battery life of 8 hours listening to music. It became the iPod mini a year later iPod nano 1st generation and it gradually developed to today's current form of the touch iPod nano 6th generation.
The first was published in 2005 iPod shuffle. It offered 12 hours of music, 1 GB capacity and a retail price of $149. To date, the shuffle has gone through four generations of development, when its shape and specifications changed.
The youngest iPod model is iPod touch launched in 2007, which in my opinion is gaining popularity. Recently, this iPod is becoming a regular game console, where you can download over 300 applications from the App Store. Now in 000, the 2010th generation of this iPod is on the market.
You can view the specific launch dates of individual iPods in the following clear graphic, where all the necessary data is listed. Whether it is price, capacity or even duration.
What is also very interesting is that iPods become cheaper as new generations are gradually developed. E.g. the first 1st generation iPod and its two successors cost $499. However, the 4th generation iPod is already $100 cheaper. And the current version of the iPod Classic 6,5. generation costs $249, making it even $150 cheaper than the original iPod.
The same trend can be observed in other types of iPod, with the exception of the iPod shuffle. It did go up in price between the 2nd and 3rd gen, but that was only temporary as you can get the current 4th gen shuffle for $49. It is thus the cheapest iPod ever.
Among other things, the infographic shows sales numbers for iPods. To date, a total of more than 269 units have been sold worldwide. Which makes it an incredibly successful product. At the same time, these numbers are sure to grow further thanks to the introduction of new generations of iPods this year.

Those prices for the first model are false. The price dropped to USD 500 only with the advent of 2G. I bought this model with a 5GB disk in November 2001 at a dealer from Sir Computers for CZK 22.000 and the list price in the USA was $750.
Oh, and another clarification. The 1G 10GB model was sold only in the spring of 2002. As of the date in the table 10/2001, the iPod 1G was sold with a 5GB hard drive via FireWire, which was really the first iPod, which is not mentioned at all.
So I don't know what sources you drew from. This data is also listed on ipodhistory.com, so there is no error in the article. The first generation was sold with a capacity of 5-10 GB, which is why the word "most expensive version" is mentioned in the article, i.e. the 10 GB version. And iPods synced via FireWire to the 3rd generation iPod. It's all in the table ;).
I didn't have to draw from anything, I have an invoice for 5GB, as I am its owner. And unlike you, I've experienced these things as an i-fan since 1991. Today's generation thinks that what is somewhere on the net and describes it is holy, it's a shame...
There you are, unfortunately, unlike you, I did not have such an opportunity. I am not a supporter of the fact that what is on the Internet is sacred and please keep such name-calling to yourself. I'm just saying that's the data. If you have a problem with an article, write your own and send it to us. We will only be happy. The contact is in the editorial office. This also applies to Mr. Krč.
Well, I don't know if there is any point in such a shallow article, an extract from Wikipedia with a number of omitted essential information. Additionally, one only needs to go through the similar summary articles on the various iPod anniversaries on the web to see how it can be written. I understand that articles must be published and money must be poured in, but this is 400% below the level of jablickare.cz and competing summaries of iPod history. I did not understand.
It's not from wikipedia, you have the source listed there ;). The article is only informative about the release of individual models, it is not an annual article where we will focus on each generation of individual models.
Practically every sentence could be analyzed and corrected: "The 2nd generation iPod already communicated without problems with computers running the Windows operating system." This is only partly true. On the one hand, it was without iTunes, through other software, and not nearly as comfortable. In fact, it could be written up to the 3rd generation.
It's a good overview by chance, I don't care if this or that was 1/2 year ago... :-)
I believe that there is a rather significant error.
The 3rd generation was black, the first with a Click Wheel in the current form
The 4th generation was color /display/ and marked as Photo, the FW disappeared on synchronization
—-increased display—thinned design—
The 5th generation was labeled Video, so far it is TOP not only in terms of sound
6th generation Classic, which already has Cover Flow, the impossibility of importing image files from external devices /Camera Connector/ and quite blocked video output on external displays.
That is, now we are still in the 6th generation, one 160GB model
The first three generations of iPods were delivered including almost all conceivable accessories /dock, power supply, cables, CD.../. Today you get an iPod Classic in 1/5 of the original packaging. If you calculate the current prices of all these accessories according to apple.com, you will arrive at I believe that Pod is still at the same price level / only various components have become cheaper in the last ten years thanks to development/.
If everyone who has access to the www finds the courage to make such presentations, I'd rather start going to the pub again and log off the internet.
May I ask about the ipod classic 160 GB - are there different generations available, how are they different and which do you think is the best to buy?
