Last week, many Czech users were pleased with the news that the Apple Watch LTE will finally go on sale in our country. On this occasion, in this article you can recall how Apple's smart watch gradually developed.

Apple Watch Series 0

The first generation Apple Watch, also referred to as Apple Watch Series 0, was introduced in 2014 alongside the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. There were three different variants available at the time – the Apple Watch, the lightweight Apple Watch Sport and the luxurious Apple Watch Edition. The Apple Watch Series 0 was equipped with the Apple S1 SoC and had, for example, a heart rate sensor. All variants of the Apple Watch Series 0 offered 8GB of storage, and the operating system allowed storage of up to 2GB of music and 75MB of photos.

Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2

The second generation Apple Watch was released in September 2016 along with the Apple Watch Series 2. The Apple Watch Series 1 was available in two sizes – 38mm and 42mm, and featured an OLED Retina display with Force Touch technology. Apple equipped this watch with an Apple S1P processor. The Apple Watch Series 2 was powered by an Apple S1 processor, featured GPS functionality, offered water resistance up to 50 meters, and users had a choice between aluminum and stainless steel construction. An Apple Watch Edition in ceramic design was also available.

Apple Watch Series 3

In September 2017, Apple introduced its Apple Watch Series 3. It was the first time that Apple's smartwatch offered mobile connectivity, albeit only in selected regions, making users even less dependent on their iPhones. The Apple Watch Series 3 boasted a 70% faster processor, smoother graphics, faster wireless connectivity and other improvements. In addition to silver and space gray aluminum, the Apple Watch Series 3 was also available in gold.

Apple Watch Series 4

The successor to the Apple Watch Series 3 was the Apple Watch Series 2018 in September 4. This model was characterized by a slightly changed design, where the body of the watch was reduced and at the same time the display was slightly enlarged. The Apple Watch Series 4 offered, for example, the function of ECG measurement or fall detection, boasted a louder speaker, a better placed microphone, and was equipped with an Apple S4 processor, guaranteeing better performance and higher speed.

Apple Watch Series 5

In September 2019, Apple introduced its Apple Watch Series 5. This novelty offered, for example, an Always-On Retina LTPO display and an integrated compass, and was available in ceramic and titanium, as well as in stainless steel or recycled aluminum. Of course, water resistance up to 50 meters, heart rate sensor, EKG measurement and other usual features and equipment were also included. The Apple Watch Series 5 was equipped with an Apple S5 processor.

Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 6

In September 2020, Apple introduced two models of its smart watches - Apple Watch SE and Apple Watch Series 6. Apple Watch SE was equipped with an Apple S5 processor and had 32 GB of storage. They offered a fall detection function, heart rate monitoring, and on the contrary, they lacked the function of EKG measurement, blood oxygenation measurement and Always-On display. It was a great solution for anyone who wanted to try Apple's smartwatch but didn't want to invest in premium features like the aforementioned Always-On display. Apple Watch Series 6 offered a novelty in the form of a sensor for measuring the level of oxygen in the blood, and was equipped with an Apple S6 processor. Among other things, this provided the watch with higher speed and better performance. The Always-On Retina display has also been improved, which offered more than twice the brightness compared to the previous generation.
