In today's installment of our series on the history of Apple products, this time we will remember the iPhone X - the iPhone that was released on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the launch of the first ever smartphone from Apple. Among other things, the iPhone X also defined the shape of most future iPhones.

Speculation and conjecture

For understandable reasons, there was considerable excitement about the "anniversary" iPhone long before its introduction. There was talk of a radical design change, new functions and innovative technologies. According to most speculations, Apple was supposed to present a trio of iPhones at the September 2017 Keynote, with the iPhone X being the high-end model with a 5,8″ OLED display. Initially, there was talk of a fingerprint sensor located under the display, but with the upcoming Keynote, most sources agreed that the iPhone X will offer authentication using Face ID. Leaked images of the upcoming iPhone's rear camera have also appeared on the Internet, putting an end to speculation about the name with a firmware leak, confirming that the new iPhone will indeed be named "iPhone X."

Performance and specifications

The iPhone X was introduced alongside the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus at a Keynote on September 12, 2017, and went on sale in November of the same year. For example, the quality of its display was met with a positive response, while the cut-out in its upper part, where sensors for Face ID were located in addition to the front camera, was received a little worse. The iPhone X has also been criticized for its unusually high price or high repair costs. Other positively rated components of the iPhone X included the camera, which received a total of 97 points in the DxOMark evaluation. However, the release of the iPhone X was not without some problems - for example, some users overseas complained of an activation problem, and with the arrival of the winter months, complaints began to appear that the iPhone X stopped working at low temperatures. The iPhone X was available in space gray and silver variants and with a storage capacity of 64 GB or 256 GB. It was equipped with a 5,8″ Super Retina HD OLED display with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels and offered IP67 resistance. On its back was a 12MP camera with a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. The phone was discontinued on September 12, 2018.
