After a short break, we are once again bringing you another look at the Apple product on the Jablíčkář website. This time, the topic of the day will be AirPods wireless headphones - we will discuss their history and briefly recall the features of the first and second generation AirPods, as well as AirPods Pro.

First generation

In September 2016, Apple presented its new iPhone 7. It was particularly interesting because of the absence of the then-common output for the traditional 3,5 mm headphone jack, and together with it, the first-generation wireless AirPods headphones were also introduced to the world. As with any new product, in connection with AirPods, there were first embarrassments, doubts, and also a lot of internet jokes, but in the end, AirPods won the favor of many users. The first generation AirPods were equipped with a W1 chip, each of the headphones was also equipped with a pair of microphones.

A small case was used to charge the headphones, which could be charged via the Lightning connector. The first generation AirPods were controlled by tapping, and the actions that occurred after tapping could easily be changed in the iPhone settings. On a single charge, the first generation of AirPods offered endurance for up to five hours, with a later firmware update, users were also able to find the headphones through the Find My iPhone application.

Second generation

The second-generation AirPods were introduced in March 2019. They were equipped with an H1 chip, boasted longer battery life, easier pairing, and also offered the function of voice activation of the Siri assistant. Users could also purchase a case with a wireless charging function for the second generation AirPods.

It was also compatible with the first generation AirPods and could be purchased separately. Relatively soon after the release of the second-generation AirPods, speculation began about the possible arrival of AirPods 3, but Apple finally released completely new AirPods Pro headphones.

AirPods Pro

AirPods Pro, which Apple introduced in the fall of 2019, in addition to a significantly higher price tag, differed from the first and second generation of Apple wireless headphones in a different design – instead of a solid structure, they ended with silicone plugs. It also boasted improved sound quality, active ambient noise cancellation, IPX4 class resistance, ambient sound analysis and permeability mode. AirPods Pro were fitted with an H1 chip and offered slightly richer control options compared to previous versions. Although there was speculation about the second generation of AirPods Pro, in the end we didn't get it. But Apple introduced the AirPods Max headphones, which we will cover in one of the next parts.
