Do you remember the crazy comedy Zděňka Troška? Sun, hay, strawberries and the actress Valeria Kaplanová, who played old Škopková's mother? I mean the one who was lying outside in bed the whole time and the naughty son of Škopková once sent her out into the world, that is, to be more precise, into the center of Hoštice. I was reminded of this scene when I first started the new iOS and macOS game Yuri. The hero in this game is a little boy who wakes up in his bed in some fantasy world. Your task is to guide him safely through this world without leaving his bed…

Yuri is the responsibility of the developers from Fingerlab, more precisely two French brothers Ange and Aurélien Potier. Ange painted the character of Yuri for ten long years, initially creating a short comic and film, which eventually became the basis of this game. The developers also supplemented it with an original soundtrack, which can be found in iTunes. In connection with this, it is still worth mentioning the application DM1 - The Drum Machine, which Fingerlab is also responsible for and most of the soundtrack was created thanks to her.

Apart from Czech comedy, Yuri also reminds me of iOS games Limbo a B. He takes something from everyone. In the game, you can expect a dark atmosphere like in Limbo and a dark environment like in Badland. In any case, it is certain that Yuri is an artistic matter that will please not only adult players, but also children. A total of ten levels await you, which you can play through in two to three hours. Experienced players can do it even faster.

However, the point is definitely not to fly through the game as quickly as possible, but on the contrary to discover hidden passages, short demonstrations and a wonderfully crafted world. Yuri rides in bed the whole time. You control it with the two forward/backward arrow keys and the jump button. Each level is somehow thematically focused. You can look forward to strange enemies such as fish, hedgehogs, spiders and all kinds of insects and other animals. Natural elements and minerals will also stand in your way.

The game isn't particularly challenging, but you'll still likely have to start over several times in each round before you find out what all the traps are waiting for you. Fortunately, you don't have to start from the beginning, but always from the nearest place of your death. The bed is quite a pain in the ass at certain times, and riding a frog like that or sailing through an abyss is no fun. For a long time I also got stuck on the wild river and waterfalls that you climb with a log. You also collect small balls during each round that ultimately serve no purpose. Only the final count is added.

If you have the latest generation of Apple TV, you will also get the TV version of Yuri by purchasing it. You can then control Yuri's bed with Nimbus gaming controller from SteelSeries. A bonus is also a set of original stickers for News, all for a solid three euros, whether you buy for iOS or macOS. Personally, I would guess that Yuri, as a novelty this year, will aspire to some design award from Apple. Graphically, the game is perfect, and we should also expect more levels in the future.
