The last working day of the 41st week of 2020 is finally upon us, which means we currently have two days off. If you're wondering what happened in the IT world over the past day, you should read this classic IT roundup before you decide to go to bed. In today's IT roundup, we'll take a look at Microsoft's statement that we'll finally see the xCloud streaming service for iOS, and in the second piece of news, we'll talk more about The Survivalist, which appeared in Apple Arcade. Let's get straight to the point.

Microsoft's xCloud game streaming service will be available on iOS

If you're at least marginally interested in what's going on in the apple world, then you've probably noticed a certain wave of criticism directed at Apple lately. It's not so much because of the physical products, but because of Apple's app store, i.e. the App Store. It's been a few months since the Apple vs. Epic Games, when the Californian giant was forced to remove Fortnite from its App Store due to rule violations. Despite the fact that the game studio Epic Games, which is behind the popular game Fortnite, completely violated the rules of the apple company and the punishment was definitely in place, since then Apple has been called a company that abuses its monopoly position, and that does not even give developers, nor users have a choice.

But when you've been building a brand for several years and investing millions of dollars into it, it's more or less appropriate to create some rules - no matter how strict they are. After that, it just depends on the developers and users, whether they will try them and follow them, or if they will not follow them and, if necessary, they will face some form of punishment. One of the most famous "rules" that are part of the App Store is that the apple company takes a 30% share of every transaction made. This share may seem high, but it should be noted that it works in exactly the same way in Google Play and in the online store from Microsoft, Sony and others - nevertheless, criticism is still leveled at Apple. The second well-known rule is that an application cannot appear in the App Store that will offer you additional applications or games for free after paying for a subscription. And precisely in this case, game streaming services, which cannot get a green light in the App Store, have problems.

In particular, nVidia, which tried to place its streaming service GeForce Now in the App Store, has a problem with this rule. In addition to nVidia, Google, Facebook and most recently Microsoft also tried to add similar applications to the App Store, specifically with the xCloud service. This service is part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which costs $14.99 per month. Microsoft tried to add its xCloud service to the App Store back in August - but this attempt was, of course, unsuccessful, precisely because of the violation of the mentioned rule, which prohibits the provision of multiple games within one application, primarily for security reasons. However, Phil Spencer, vice president of the gaming industry at Microsoft, is clear about this whole situation and states: "xCloud will XNUMX% come to iOS." Allegedly, in this case, Microsoft should use some workarounds that will bypass the rules of the App Store and players will be able to use xCloud one hundred percent. The question remains, however, whether Apple will not treat this detour in some way.

The Survivalists is coming to Apple Arcade

It's been almost a year since we saw the launch of new Apple services called Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade. Content is constantly being added to both of these mentioned services, i.e. movies, series and other shows to Apple TV+, and various games to Apple Arcade. Just today, an interesting new game called The Survivalists appeared in Apple Arcade. The said game uses an island-themed sandbox where they have to explore, build, craft, trade and even train monkeys to befriend them in order to survive. The mentioned game is available on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV and comes from the British game studio Team17, which is behind the games Overcooked, Worms and The Escapists. In order to download The Survivalists, all you need is an Apple Arcade subscription, which costs 139 crowns per month. Apart from Apple devices, the game is also available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC starting today.
