When the now-legendary Slay the Spire appeared in the gaming world at the end of 2017, few knew that it would be a game that could give birth to a completely new, and very successful, subgenre. The genre of card roguelikes and roguelites has been growing happily ever since. However, most of the time, new projects openly claim the legacy of the founder of the genre and do not abound in excessive creativity. It is therefore exciting when a challenger appears who refreshes the already established pattern with new ideas. The latest is Klei Entertainment's Griftlands, which proclaims that physical violence is sometimes a last resort.

In the game, you will find yourself in a twisted sci-fi world in which your neck will be on the line at any moment. And while you can always solve every problem with a well-aimed fist, Griftlands will force you to settle your disputes with your opponents first. The combat system of the game works on two levels - the traditionally combative one and the one in which physical attacks replace well-constructed arguments. However, how you defeat enemies using either method is no different. You play cards from your decks built over time while taking turns with your opponent. But it's fair to say that sometimes the game throws you right into classic combat. After all, talking to such a desert monster is not good enough.

Tactical fights underscore the game's overall focus on building (or breaking) relationships. With each passage, you complete quests for different factions, whose opinion of you changes according to the decisions you make. That way, if you die in the game and have to go to Griftlands all over again, you don't have to worry about it being the same adventure. This is ensured by the choice of three different professions at the beginning of each passage.
