Yesterday afternoon, quite interesting information appeared on the web that GoPro is giving up its fight for market position in the drone segment. According to the information coming from the company's financial results, it looks like GoPro is going to sell off all of its stock and is not counting on further development or production. Within the company, the entire division that was in charge of drone development should disappear. A larger number of people will also lose their jobs.

It's been less than a year and a half since GoPro introduced its first (and we now know its last) drone called Karma. It was supposed to be a kind of competitor to drones from the lower classes offered by DJI and other manufacturers who specialized in so-called action drones. At GoPro, they wanted to combine their great and proven action cameras with something that was gaining momentum at the time because it was 2016 that saw a massive increase in sales of these "toys". As it seems, the business plan in this segment has not come to fruition and the company's activities in this segment are slowly but surely coming to an end. On the contrary, in terms of action and outdoor cameras, they belong according to different tests and comparisons still among the absolute top on the market.

The company thus reacts to the unfavorable financial results it has been achieving for the past few quarters. Last quarter's results were the worst since 2014, and the company resorted to a step in December where it discounted the popular Hero 100 Black cameras by $6 - to revive sales. The Karma drones themselves have struggled from the start, although initial sales have been very promising. The first models suffered from a bug that caused them to shut down in mid-air and required a recall. GoPro has never been able to compete with its drone. More than 250 employees will lose their jobs as a result of this move. It is also not entirely clear how it will be further with the support.
