Most gamers will agree that the more realistic a computer game is, the better. Google decided to use Google Maps to intensify the realistic feel of selected games even more.

Google has made its Maps API platform available to game designers and developers. This will give them access to real-world maps, according to which developers can create the most faithful game environment possible - a significant shift could be seen, especially for games such as GTA, taking place in existing locations. At the same time, with this step, Google will significantly facilitate the work of developers with coding. This option is currently only available for the Unity game engine.

In practice, making the Maps API platform available will mean better options for developers when creating an environment in games, not only "real", but also one that is supposed to display, for example, a post-apocalyptic or medieval version of New York. Developers will also be able to "borrow" specific textures and use them in a completely different digital world.

The update is also hugely important for augmented reality game developers, who will use the data made available to create even better worlds and give players a unique experience no matter where they are.

It will take some time before the public can see the first results of the step that the Californian giant has decided to take. But Google is already working with developers on some new titles including Walking Dead: Your World or Jurassic World Alive. More details about Google's collaboration with game developers will be revealed next week at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
