Google has released the first public beta version of Android 13 available for Pixel phones, giving a glimpse of the new features and capabilities of the latest version of this most widely used mobile operating system, codenamed Tiramisu. However, if you were expecting a bunch of new features, you would be disappointed.

We can certainly agree that many will especially appreciate the overall optimization of any system rather than just artificially increasing its functions. But if Google does not succeed in this, it will have a coat of shame. Android 13 doesn't exactly bring that much news. There are actually only a few of them and many of them are only cosmetic.

However, it is necessary to draw attention to the fact that many mobile phone manufacturers build on Android and enrich it with their add-ons. When they come with them, it can be said that there may be a lot more news, but only on certain phone models.

Minor visual changes

With Android 12, Google introduced Material You design, i.e. the appearance of the environment, which takes color tones from the wallpaper and applies them to the entire environment. The fact that another expansion is coming now is not a big news. Android 13 then comes with a visual change to media playback, where what you have already played is marked with a squiggle. It might be nice for long podcasts, but it certainly won't be a key feature.

The same cannot be said for the integrated search. In the case of Android, you search within applications and possibly system menus. When you search for something on iOS, you are also offered Internet links, for example. As you may have guessed, one of the novelties is this, i.e. the integration of Google search into the system menu. Finally, a preview of the day in the Google Calendar app icon is coming.

But even apple lovers would appreciate something

The first really useful innovation is the ability to control the smart home even from the locked screen. After all, there are a lot of complaints about the Home app on iOS, and Apple should finally focus more on it. You could turn off the light bulb even from a locked display, and you could open smart blinds in the same way.

The main thing that is known so far and what Android 13 brings is the copied content box. When you take a screenshot on iOS, it will appear in the bottom left corner, where if you click on it, you can edit it and maybe share it right away. Google's novelty can do this even with copied text. So when you copy one, it will appear in the lower left corner. After selecting it, a new interface will open where you can edit it before using it. And that's certainly a rather useful feature.

The sharp version of Android 13 is not expected until the fall of this year. On May 11, however, Google is holding its I/O 2022 conference, i.e. its own version of Apple's WWDC, where we will certainly learn more.
