Google has announced the launch of Play Pass, which aims to compete with Apple's new gaming service Arcade. At the same time, the offer does not look bad at all.

When directly comparing Google Play Pass and Apple Arcade we find a lot in common. Both services cost $4,99 per month, both include a catalog of games, and both will continue to expand. There are no games with additional micropayments or advertising on any service. In both cases, the subscription can be shared within the family flat rate.

But Google doesn't just rely on exclusive titles. On the contrary, he included in the offer a total of 350 games from the already existing catalog that meet the aforementioned conditions. Apple wants to rely on exclusive titles created specifically for its Apple Arcade service, or at least titles that will be exclusive to Arcade for a period of time before being ported to other platforms.

By choosing from the current game offer, Google Play Pass has a much wider offer and, most importantly, variety. According to the original announcement, Apple Arcade was supposed to offer over 100 titles, but for now we are approaching about seventy. New titles will be added to both services regularly every month.

Google has been preparing Play Pass for a year

Google intends to pay developers based on user activity in a given app. At the moment, it is not very clear what we should imagine under this. One of the interpretations talks about the active time spent in the given game, i.e. screen time.

However, according to previous information, Google has been planning Play Pass since 2018. Internal testing has been going on since June of this year, and now the service is ready.

In the first wave, customers in the USA will receive it. Other countries will gradually follow. Play Pass offers a 10-day trial period, after which a $4,99 fee is charged.

Google is also offering a promotion where a subscription can be obtained at a discounted price of $1,99 per month for one year.
