Since quite a lot happened in the IT world today and yesterday, as part of today's IT summary, we will look at the news from both today and yesterday. In the first piece of news, we will recall the release of a new phone from Google that is supposed to compete with the iPhone SE, in the next piece of news, we will look at the brand new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold of the second generation, which Samsung presented a few hours ago. In the third news, we will look at how Instagram launched Reels, simply put, the "replacement" of TikTok, and in the last paragraph we will look at the number of subscribers to the Disney+ service.

Google introduced competition for the iPhone SE

Yesterday we saw the presentation of the new Pixel 4a from Google. This device is meant to compete with the budget iPhone SE second generation based on its price tag and specifications. The Pixel 4a has a 5.81″ display with a small round cutout in the upper left corner – for comparison, the iPhone SE has a 4.7″ display, of course with much larger bezels around the display, due to Touch ID. Quite possibly, however, we should wait for the iPhone SE Plus, which would be much more suitable, in terms of display, to compare with the Pixel 4a. As for the processor, the Pixel 4a offers an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 730, together with the Titan M security chip. It is also equipped with 6 GB of RAM, one 12.2 Mpix lens, 128 GB of storage and a 3140 mAh battery. For comparison, the iPhone SE has the most powerful A13 Bionic chip, 3 GB of RAM, a single lens with 12 Mpix, three storage options (64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB) and a battery size of 1821 mAh.

Samsung presented the new Galaxy Z Fold 2 at today's conference

If you followed today's events in the IT world with at least one eye, you certainly did not miss the conference from Samsung, which was called Unpacked. At this conference, Samsung presented the second generation of its popular device called Galaxy Z Fold. If we were to compare the second generation with the first, at first glance you will most likely notice larger displays, both on the outside and inside. The internal display is 7.6″, refresh rate 120 Hz and it should be noted that it supports HDR10+. The outdoor display has a diagonal of 6.23″ and its resolution is Full HD. Many changes took place mainly "under the hood", i.e. in the hardware. A few days ago we you informed about the fact that the latest and most powerful processor from Qulacomm, the Snapdragon 865+, should appear in the new Galaxy Z Fold. We can now confirm that these speculations were true. In addition to the Snapdragon 865+, future owners of the second-generation Galaxy Z Fold can look forward to 20 GB of RAM. As for storage, consumers will be able to choose from several variants, the largest of which will have 512 GB. However, the price and availability of the second generation Galaxy Z Fold 2 remains a mystery.

Instagram is launching a new Reels feature

A few days ago we took you through one of the summaries informed that Instagram is about to launch a new Reels platform. This platform is intended to serve as a competitor to TikTok, which is currently due to impending ban drowning in problems. So, unless ByteDance, the company behind TikTok, gets lucky, it looks like Instagram's Reels could be a huge success. Of course, Instagram knows that content creators and users themselves won't just switch from TikTok to Reels. That's why he decided to offer a few successful creators of TikTok content a financial reward if they give up TikTok and switch to Reels. Of course, TikTok wants to keep its users, so it also has various financial rewards prepared for its creators. So the choice is currently only up to the creators themselves. If a creator accepts the offer and switches from TikTok to Reels, it can be assumed that they will bring countless followers with them, which is exactly the goal of Instagram. We'll see if Instagram's Reels takes off - the current TikTok situation could definitely help it.

Disney+ has nearly 58 million subscribers

Streaming services are very popular these days. Whether you want to listen to music or watch series or movies, you can choose from several services - in the field of music, Spotify and Apple Music, in the case of shows, for example Netflix, HBO GO or Disney+. Unfortunately, Disney+ is still not available in the Czech Republic and many other European countries. Even so, this service is doing exceptionally well. During its operation, i.e. as of November 2019, it already has almost 58 million subscribers, which is three million more than it had in May 2020, the 50 million subscriber mark Disney+ managed to break earlier this year. By the end of 2024, the Disney+ service should of course expand to other countries and the total number of active subscribers should be somewhere around 60-90 million. For now, Disney+ is available in the US, Canada and several European countries – as we mentioned, unfortunately not in the Czech Republic.
