Very positive steps have been taken in recent months by Google developers working on Chrome desktop browsers. The latest versions of Chrome for both Windows and Mac are much less demanding on the battery.

"Chrome for Mac now uses 33 percent less power for everything from videos and images to simple web browsing," writes Google on your blog. Over the past year, Chrome has reportedly seen double-digit improvements in speed and battery life.

In part, this is also a response from Google to Microsoft, which this year began heavily promoting its Edge browser in Windows 10, showing users how much more demanding Chrome is on the battery.

Now, Google has responded with the same coin - a video in which it compares on the Surface Book, as Microsoft did, its last year's and this year's Chrome when playing an HTML5 video on Vimeo. The new version of Chrome will make it possible to play video almost two and a quarter hours longer. It's not yet clear how much the battery life will improve during normal browsing, but Google is clearly moving in the right direction.
