Google will soon release an update to its Google Maps iOS app that will bring support for offline navigation. Arguably the best maps in the world will thus be much more useful without an internet connection. It is already possible to save a section of the map in Google Maps for use without the Internet, but offline navigation is something that users have been calling for for a long time and until now they could only dream about it.
In the upcoming version of the Google map application, it will be possible to download a certain part of the map and use classic GPS navigation within it in offline mode. It will also be possible to search and access information about points of interest for the downloaded area. So, without connecting, you will be able to find out, for example, the opening hours of businesses or check their user ratings.
Of course, there are functions that simply cannot be downloaded and made available offline. Such a function is traffic information and warning of unexpected obstacles on the road. So you will continue to have the best experience using Google Maps when you are connected to the Internet. But in any case, the update will move the application several levels higher, and you will definitely appreciate the new feature when traveling abroad or to areas with less coverage.

Finally! And they could then be inspired by this step in Cupertino as well. Or at least make Siri a bit "offline-friendly" so that she can at least control music without an internet connection.
Apple's maps are very limited in use in Slovakia, and the voice there is terrible.
First of all, Google should solve the navigation as such... I'm in New York and quite routinely the app tells me "turn right" and shows a left arrow... And it's not just New York, the rest of the east coast as well.
Also, it wouldn't hurt to modify the instructions - the application usually says so many things that you can't understand it. Compared to Navigon, Google still has a lot of catching up to do…
I use Google maps on my iPhone, and if I need to go somewhere where there is no mobile internet or a bit beyond the border, I normally plan / search for a route, start it and when I turn off the data, the GPS navigation navigates normally
I'd rather have offline navigation with Waze, because I found out yesterday that google doesn't have all the detours, although it's strange, I thought that after buying Waze, the detours are synchronized there and back.
But just as Mr. Nosek says, planning the route on the "signal" also works with Waze, and then when you drive for example through Poland, the navigation keeps the route, so it doesn't suddenly crash, the problem is if the application crashes :-)
Waze solves it and mainly has new sections and all closures...
