Apple fans and users have an annual September keynote where Apple unveils new products, led by the new iPhones. Google has also had a similar event for the past few years, which takes place just a few weeks after Apple's. This year's Google I/O conference took place tonight, and the company presented several interesting products with which it is preparing for the market in the fall.

The main attraction of the evening was the presentation of the new phone Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. The design hasn't changed much since the last one, the back is again in a two-tone design. The XL model has significantly smaller frames than the standard one and is thus recognizable at first glance. As for the size of the phones, they are paradoxically very similar. This year, the XL designation means a larger display rather than the overall size.

The display of the smaller model has a 5" diagonal and Full HD resolution with a fineness of 441ppi. The XL model has a 6″ display with QHD resolution with a fineness of 538ppi. Both panels are protected by Gorilla Glass 5 and support the Always On function for displaying information on the screen that is turned off.

As for the rest of the hardware, it is the same for both models. At the heart of the phone is the octa-core Snapdragon 835 with Adreno 540 graphics, which is complemented by 4GB of RAM and 64 or 128GB of space for user data. The battery has a capacity of 2700 or 3520mAh. What has disappeared, however, is the 3,5mm connector. Only USB-C is now available. The phone offers other classic features, such as fast charging, Bluetooth 5 support and IP67 certification. Wireless charging is not available with the new product.

As for the camera, it is also identical for both models. It is a 12,2MPx sensor with an aperture of f/1,8, which is complemented by many new software gadgets that can deliver great photos. Of course, Portrait mode, which we know from iPhones, or the presence of optical stabilization, HDR+ or Google's Live Photos alternative. The front camera has an 8MP sensor with f/2,4 aperture.

Google launched pre-orders immediately after the end of the conference, the classic model is available for 650, respectively 750 dollars and the XL model for 850, respectively 950 dollars. In addition to the phones, the company also introduced a pair of home smart speakers, Mini and Max, which should compete with the HomePod that Apple is preparing. The Mini model will be very affordable ($50), while the Max model will be significantly more sophisticated and also more expensive ($400).

Next, Google introduced its own Pixel Buds wireless headphones ($160), the $250 Clips mini camera, and the new Pixelbook. It's essentially a premium convertible Chromebook with stylus support, priced at $999+ depending on configuration.
