When I first saw and played Goat Simulator, the first crazy goat game, I thought it was a stupid joke. I let the game float around and noticed it again a few months ago when the free sequel GoatZ came out. It is evident that the goat phenomenon took hold, so the developers decided to improve the whole game even more and bring it to a much greater absurdity. This is primarily a new survival mode, where you try to survive literally from day to day.
GoatZ takes you to a brand new city that is full of zombies. The main character of the game is a goat, with whom you can do practically anything you want. Want to get shot by a cannon? Not a problem. Do you feel like sliding down the mega slide into the sea? With GoatZ you can. Are you tempted to smash ships, cars or houses with your head? Just try one of the offered modes.
There are three of them: traditional tutorial, survival mode and casual. As the name implies, the tutorial will quickly and easily introduce you to all the principles and possibilities in the game. You'll discover how easy it is to build crazy weapons, like a flour thrower, a bubblegum sprayer, or a heart-shooting bow. You will also understand that it is important to take care of the goat, i.e. to eat and rest regularly. You will appreciate this especially in survival mode.
No laws of physics apply in GoatZ. The developers even state that the frequent bugs, poor controls and various crashes in the game are completely intentional and normal. Fortunately, there is a respawn button that always returns you to your starting point in the graveyard. Killing zombies is a matter of course. All you have to do is hit them with horns a few times or kick them hard. Each zombie will also drop some raw materials, such as food or its brain, which you can eat to save your life. You lose it in survival mode, where every day you survive counts.
There are several ways to survive. As already said, it is important to follow the right lifestyle, look for weapons and craft or complete various tasks. Every time you die, you start all over again. Only zombies and lack of food can kill a goat. However, it must be noted that if you fall from a ten-meter height onto concrete or get shot from a cannon, nothing will happen to you.
Casual mode offers the most fun. The goat becomes immortal in this mode, and thanks to this you can explore all the possibilities and corners of the whole city and discover new weapons. For me, GoatZ is above all a great relaxing and crazy game. You don't even have to think about it much or exert yourself in any other way. The goat is also quite easy to control. You have a virtual joystick and several action buttons at your disposal.
You can find the game in the App Store for five euros, which is not at all cheap. On the other hand, GoatZ offers a decent amount of fun that you won't get tired of easily. If you are one of the crazy people who like to defy the laws of physics, love experiments and discovering new things, the game will surely interest you. Just pay attention to the supported devices.
