Apple has never publicly boasted about the detailed performance of its chips in iOS devices, and technical data such as processor frequency, number of cores or RAM size have always been known only after testing the devices with the appropriate tools. The PrimeLabs server, on which a test recently appeared performance of the new Mac minis, also showed Geekbench results for the new iPad Air, which are very pleasing and partly surprising.

Not only did the tablet achieve a very good score, namely 1812 on a single core and 4477 on multiple cores (the original iPad Air achieved 1481/2686), but the test revealed two very interesting data. First, the iPad Air 2 finally got 2 GB of RAM. It thus has twice the amount of RAM as the iPhone 6/6 Plus, with which it shares a large part of the chipset, although the iPad has a more powerful Apple A8X.

RAM size has a big impact especially on multitasking. This way, users will see less reloading of pages in Safari in previously open panels or closing of applications due to running out of RAM. It is often the operating memory that has a huge impact on the performance of devices with newer versions of the operating system.

The second interesting and quite unusual data is the number of cores in the processor. Until now, Apple has used two cores, while the competition has already switched to four, and in some cases even eight. However, the iPad Air 2 has three. This also explains the 66% increase in performance in Geekbench with more cores (up 55% against the latest iPhones). The processor is clocked at a frequency of 1,5 GHz, i.e. 100 MHz higher than the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. We will probably learn more interesting information about the iPad Air 2 soon after the "dissection" of the iFixit server.
