ECG recording is one of the most important, most attractive, and at the same time the least widespread features of the Apple Watch Series 4. It is currently only available in selected areas in the United States. However, the documentation in the latest iOS 12.2 operating system update suggests that European Apple Watch Series 4 owners could see the ECG function relatively soon.

A document regarding instructions for using the ECG feature is hidden deep within the Health app in the latest release of iOS 12.2. In the text found in the app Health -> Health data -> Heart -> Electrocardiogram (ECG) -> Instructions for use, there is a subtle information about the availability of the ECG application on Apple Watch Series 4 with watchOS 5.2, paired with iPhone 5s and later, running iOS 12.2 and later, even in regions outside the United States.

The watchOS 5.2 operating system is currently in beta testing. The document also includes the CE marking, representing compliance with the market regulations of the European Economic Area. Residents of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway could also expect ECG functionality in their Apple Watch Series 4.

Apple introduced the ECG feature with the Apple Watch Series 4 last September. However, the feature is currently only available in certain areas in the United States where it has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
