Craig Federighi - and not only him - is busy even after the opening Keynote at WWDC. Among other things, he has to go through countless interviews, during which he mainly talks about the news that Apple presented at the conference. In one of the latest interviews, he talked about the Catalyst platform, formerly known as Marzipan. But there was also talk of the new iPadOS operating system or the SwiftUI tool.

In a forty-five minute interview with Federico Viticci from Mac Stories, Federighi managed to cover a fairly wide range of topics. He raved about the Catalyst platform, saying it gives developers a lot of new options when it comes to porting their apps to the Mac operating system. According to Federighi, Catalyst is not intended to replace AppKit, but rather as a new way to create Mac applications. In addition, it also allows developers to sell their apps on the App Store in addition to the web. With the help of Catalyst, several native macOS applications were also created, such as News, Household and Actions.

The SwiftUI framework, in turn, according to Federighi, allows developers to program in a really minimalistic, fast, clear and efficient way - as was shown at the WWDC opening keynote.

Federighi also talked about the new iPad operating system in the interview. When asked why now is the right time to separate the iPad from the iOS platform, Federighi replied that functions such as Split View, Slide Over and Drag and Drop were designed from the beginning to fit into the iPad's own operating system.
