The power of cell phones is that once you unbox them and fire up the camera app, you can immediately take photos and videos with them. Just aim at the scene and press the shutter, anytime and (almost) anywhere. But the result will also look like that. So it takes some thought to make your images as pleasing as possible. And from that, here is our series Taking photos with an iPhone. Now let's look at the hot new thing in the form of photo styles.

Photo styles apply a default look to the photo, but you can also fully edit it - that is, you can determine the tone and temperature settings yourself. Unlike filters, they preserve the natural rendering of the sky or skin tones. Everything uses advanced scene analysis, you just decide whether you want a Vivid, Warm, Cool or rich contrast style. You can also set your own style, when you will have it immediately ready for use next time.

But there is one catch. You can apply filters to the scene not only before taking the picture, but also in post-production. Then, whenever you change your mind, you can change it or remove it completely. Not so with Photographic Style. The interface does show you that you are taking pictures with its activation, but after taking a recording, you will find out this information rather complicatedly only in the metadata. In addition, there is no way to work with the style. It cannot be edited or removed, therefore their use is considered. An inappropriately chosen style will give you a lot of work in post-production (it will have too yellow or blue colors, or the contrast will be too dark, etc.).

How to activate photo styles on iPhone 13

After starting the Camera in Photo mode for the first time, the application informs you accordingly about the news. But if you don't have time to read the included news, you can then wonder where you can actually turn on the photo styles.

  • Run the application Camera.
  • Choose a mode GALLERY.
  • Unclick an arrow offering additional choices.
  • Tap on the photo styles icon.
  • By swiping right and left you select the desired one.
  • If you want to change any of its values, tap the tone or temperature and move the scale.
  • Again press the arrow to close the menu.
  • You can see that the style is activated in the corner of the interface.

The style icon changes its appearance depending on which one you have selected. It's also active, so you can change or edit styles when you tap on it. But as soon as you select Standard, you turn it off and the icon itself disappears from the photography interface. You have to go through the arrow again to call up the menu. If you then start editing, adding a tone will make the colors brighter and more vivid. By removing it, on the contrary, you will highlight shadows and contrast. By increasing the temperature, you will highlight the golden undertones, by decreasing it, you will favor the blue ones.
