We are all used to using the shortcut ⌘X to cut and then ⌘V to paste, for example, when editing text. In exactly the same way, this sequence of keyboard shortcuts works in all applications, but sometimes we also need to move files in the Finder application, i.e. in the native file manager in OS X. Things are a little different here.

Users moving from Windows in particular may be unpleasantly surprised that Macs can't cut and paste files. But they can do it, just differently. The only trick is that OS X doesn't use Cut (⌘X)/Paste (⌘V) but Copy (⌘C)/Move (⌥⌘V). However, if you insist on using ⌘X/⌘V, try e.g TotalFinder or ForkLift.
