One of the biggest draws of this year's iPhones is their camera. The ability to take great photos and shoot breathtaking videos was confirmed by almost all reviewers who got their hands on the new iPhone XS. However, how does the celebrated novelty compare to professional equipment that should be several classes away? Of course there are differences between them. However, they are not what many might expect.

In a benchmark test conducted by a professional filmmaker Ed Gregory, the iPhone XS and the professional Canon C200 camera, whose value is around 240 thousand crowns, will face each other. The author of the test takes identical shots from several different scenes, which he then compares against each other. In the case of an iPhone, this is video recorded in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. In the case of Canon, these parameters are the same, but it is recorded in RAW (and using Sigma Art 18-35 f1.8 glass). None of the files were modified in any way in terms of additional post-processing. You can view the footage below.

In the video, you could see two identical sequences, one belonging to a professional camera and the other to an iPhone. The author deliberately does not reveal which track is which and leaves the evaluation up to the viewer. This is where the feeling for the image and the knowledge of where to look comes into play. However, in the following explanation, the differences are apparent. In the end, however, it is definitely not about the differences behind the difference of more than two hundred thousand in the purchase price. Yes, in the case of professional filming, the iPhone will not be enough for you, but considering the above examples, I dare to say that at least a third of the viewers will not be correct with the estimate.

As for the main differences between the two recordings, the image from the iPhone is significantly oversharpened. It is most noticeable in the details of trees and bushes. In addition, some details are often burned out, or they merge together. What is great, on the other hand, is the color rendering and the great dynamic range, which is breathtaking for such a small camera. Technology has come a long way in recent years, and it's amazing how good records today's flagships are making. The above video is an example of this.
