It's been eight years since Facebook Messenger became a standalone app. It has not been possible to reply to private messages in the Facebook application environment for five years. Now it looks like the private messaging feature will return to the main app. First report about it she brought Jane Manchun Wont, who noticed a section on the Facebook mobile app Cat.

According to her, everything indicates that Facebook is currently testing the private chat function in the environment of its main mobile application. However, the relevant area at the moment lacks some basic functions that users are used to from Messenger - reactions, support for voice and video calls, the ability to send photos and more.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to merge private messages of all three applications under Facebook (Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp) into one. In practice, it should look like that individual applications will be able to be used individually in the future, but at the same time, for example, Facebook users will be able to send an encrypted message to WhatsApp users, and vice versa. According to Wong, it is likely that Facebook will keep the Messenger app available to users even after the chat feature returns to the Facebook app.

Facebook released a statement on the matter saying, among other things, that it is testing ways to improve the user experience of people using the Facebook app. Messenger will remain a functional, standalone app, according to the company. At the end of its statement, Facebook said it had no further details to share with the public.
