Another weekend is successfully behind us, and so is Monday, cursed by many. Even before you decide to go to bed, pay attention to today's IT summary, in which we traditionally look at the most interesting things that happened in the past day. In today's summary, we will look at a total of three novelties. In the first of them, you will read about the upcoming plans of Facebook, in the second news, we will introduce the news within the Telegram application, and in the last paragraph, we will again focus on the "war" between ByteDance, which belongs to TikTok, and the US president, Donald Trump. So let's jump straight to the point together.

Facebook is about to merge messages from Messenger and Instagram

Some time ago, you may have heard information that the news from the applications that fall under the empire called Facebook could be combined. For quite a long time after the announcement of this initial plan, there was silence on the footpath. Today, however, it became clear that Facebook is serious about news merge, and that it hasn't forgotten about it. Over the weekend, the first American users of Instagram were informed through a notification in the application that they could soon look forward to a new way of communicating across the popular social network from Facebook. Simply put, this means that Instagram users will simply be able to communicate with Messenger users, and of course vice versa. As soon as the application update in which the merger will take place is available, the colorful chat from Messenger will appear in Instagram along with all its functions. The paper swallow that stands for Direct Messages on Instagram, i.e. messages, it will be replaced by the Messenger logo.

Early adopters have already been able to try out this cross-app chat feature. However, for now it looks like Instagram users can chat with Messenger users, but not the other way around. However, according to Facebook, users will also get this "opposite" option. To make matters worse, WhatsApp will be added to these two applications, so it will be possible to chat in all three applications with all Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp users at the same time. In addition, Facebook plans to introduce native end-to-end encryption of messages in all these applications, which currently only WhatsApp offers without the need for activation, then Messenger in the form of secret messages. We'll see when this whole thing is done - right now it's hard to tell if we're talking days, weeks or months. In conclusion, I'll just mention that Facebook will surely release this news gradually to all users. So if your friend already has this news and you don't, there's nothing to worry about and there's definitely nothing wrong with you. The news just hasn't reached you yet and you will have to wait for some time - but you will definitely not be forgotten. Are you looking forward to merging messages from Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp? Let us know in the comments.

Chat application Telegram has received end-to-end encryption video calls

If you want to be sure of encryption when chatting, you can use the Telegram application. Since its inception, this application has offered end-to-end encryption to users, which is a kind of standard these days. If you are hearing about end-to-end encryption for the first time, it is encryption in which a message sent through a chat application is encrypted (using an encryption key stored on the device), then travels encrypted over the Internet and is decrypted (using a decryption key stored on the recipient's device) only on its end that represents the recipient - hence end-to-end encryption.

In addition to message encryption, Telegram also offers end-to-end encrypted calls, and in the latest update we finally got end-to-end encrypted video calls. So if you use the Telegram application, go to the App Store and update the application. You then simply start a video call by going to the person's profile and then tapping the icon to start the call. However, the developers state that the end-to-end encrypted video calls are still in the alpha testing phase, so there may be some bugs when using them. But switching from a classic call to a video call already works without having to end the call, there is also support for the picture-in-picture function. Telegram should then introduce end-to-end encrypted group video calls by the end of the year, so users certainly have something to look forward to.

ByteDance must sell the "US" part of TikTok within 90 days

There is probably no need to remind you what has been happening in the field of TikTok in recent weeks - we have already done so several times they mentioned within past summaries. At the moment, TikTok was in such a situation that it was about to be banned in the United States of America. However, their president, Donald Trump, was willing to accept Microsoft's offer, which was interested in buying the "American" part of TikTok. Microsoft was very interested in the mentioned part of TikTok, but stated that it will not comment on the ongoing solution with TikTok until September 15, when the deadline for the verdict is set. So it is not certain whether Microsoft is still interested in TikTok - but if it is not, then Donald Trump decided to insure the whole situation. Today, he signed a document in which he gives ByteDance 90 days to sell its "American" part of TikTok to any American company. If the sale does not happen within these 90 days, TikTok will be banned in the US. 90 days is quite a long time to think, and in the event that Microsoft is not interested in the end, ByteDance would still have several dozen days to find a potential buyer. We'll see how this whole situation develops.
